About Alex

Floors done properly, from the subfloor up.

“I’ve been fitting floors around Twickenham and the surrounding areas for years, and I still get the same satisfaction out of a clean finish now as I did on my first job. Every floor starts underneath — with a subfloor that's flat, dry and properly prepared — because that's what makes the difference between a floor that looks good on day one and one that still looks good in five years.

Whether it's herringbone in a hallway, LVT in a kitchen, or a cracked garage floor that needs levelling before anything goes down, I do it properly or I don't do it. Fully insured, always tidy, and I'll give you a straight answer before I give you a quote.”

Common questions

Flooring questions, answered

How much does a floor fitter charge?

It depends on the floor you choose, the size and shape of the room, how much preparation the subfloor needs, and the pattern: herringbone and parquet take longer than a straight-lay floor. Send a few photos and rough room sizes through the quote form for a free estimate with no obligation.

What types of flooring do you fit?

Solid hardwood and engineered wood, herringbone and parquet, LVT and vinyl floor tiles, laminate, and interlocking floor tiles for garages, workshops and home gyms, plus the floor screeding, levelling and ply boarding that go underneath them.

Do you supply the flooring as well as fit it?

Wood flooring can be supplied as well as fitted, so the boards and the fitting sit on one quote. Whatever floor you have in mind, name it in your enquiry so the quote matches it.

What is subfloor preparation, and do I need it?

It's the work done to the floor underneath before a new floor goes down: levelling compound or screed on uneven concrete, or ply boarding over old floorboards. Whether you need it depends on the floor you choose and the state of the base. Thin floors like LVT need the flattest base of all.

Are you on Checkatrade?

Yes. Alex Flooring Specialist is rated 9.97 out of 10 on Checkatrade from 118 reviews, and you can read every one of them on the Checkatrade profile.

Do you charge VAT?

No. Alex is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT added on top of your quote.

Do you fit floors for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. Alex takes on both domestic and commercial work. Tell him about the space and how it is used, and the quote will match it.

Does Alex only cover the areas listed?

No. Alex works across London and up to 50 miles around Twickenham, so the areas listed are examples, not a boundary. Send your postcode through the quote form and Alex will confirm.

Do you need to visit before giving a quote?

Not always. Photos, rough room sizes and a postcode are often enough for a first estimate. For larger jobs, or where the state of the floor underneath is unclear, Alex may need to see it first.
